MY COMMENTS IN CAPS (WE HAVE TO BUILD A QUOTING MECHANISM ON HERE!)

First of all, i found CENTRICCRM through Freshmeat.net about a week ago and think it has some wonderful features that we could really make use of.

I'm the CTO for a very small consulting firm, and my focus to date has been tracking projects in flight, (very loose PM, time tracking, expense tracking, etc) and not so much the pipeline and presales thing. Your product does the latter so well, however, that i'm now thinking that i would like to build from this and tack on some time tracking/expense reporting support.

I don't really see any way to track, on a per day basis, hours spent on a project by an individual (so consultant Joe logs in at the end of the day, and bills 8 hours to customer ACME on project Design Review)...so i guess the first question is, am i just missing something? If not, and the functionality isn't in there, have you guys done any work with other (preferrably open source) products that specialize on tracking time?
YEP, TIME TRACKING IS A BIT OF A PROBLEM IN THE CURRENT VERSION. HOWEVER, WE ARE IN ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT OF BOTH A COMPONENT THAT TRACKS HOURS AGAINST PROJECTS, OR JOBS, AND ONE THAT MANAGES RESOURCE (PEOPLE) ALLOCATION FOR PROJECTS. THESE WILL LIKELY BE INCLUDED IN OUR 3.0 RELEASE, SCHEDULED FOR Q1, 2005.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN COLLABORATING WITH US ON THIS, AND YOU HAVE JAVA/JSP. SQL, AND HTML SKILLS, WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU AS A PART OF THE TEAM, AND WE CAN DISCUSS WHAT THE RELATIONSHIP MIGHT BE. IF YOU'RE CONTENT TO WAIT, THAT'S OK, TOO. IF YOU WANT TO JUST BUILD SOMETHING, YOU CAN DO SO, SINCE YOU PRESUMABLY HAVE THE SOURCE, BUT TO INSURE THAT WE CARRY YOUR IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CORE SO YOU DON'T NEED TO PATCH EVERY TIME WE RELEASE, A MORE FORMAL RELATIONSHIP MIGHT MAKE MORE SENSE.

Expenses is a whole other animal, i'm not so worried about that...but it would be nice if you are aware of a product that helps with that angle.
NOT DIRECTLY AWARE OF ANYTHING WORTHWHILE THAT WE COULD INTEGRATE RIGHT AWAY.

Just wanted to follow up on this, as I still haven't actually put anything into production yet. I see a timesheet option on the community site, but didn't see one in the 3.0 release (congrats btw!). Am i just missing it or did time tracking get shelved for a later version?

I'm still interested in implementing time tracking and expenses myself, but my current schedule makes this fairly unlikely in the forseeable future.

We haven't really figured out what time tracking is yet. We've kind of got the big picture, but are playing with concepts and implementation details in the Community site for later inclusion into a complete implementation.

As always, but maybe especially on this one, your comments and guidance would be appreciated.

Can anyone help me?
I want to know how I can track, on a per day basis, hours spent on a project by an user.
Is this possible with last stable release ( or the next) of Centric CRM?
