Portal Access tab missing

If I navigate to a contact by going through accounts (Accounts > Search Results > Account Details > Contacts > Contact Details) at the top there are five tabs:
Details / Activities / Messages / Oppertunities / Portal
But if I navigate through the contacts module (Contacts > Search Results > Contact Details), I see different tab options:
Details / Folders / Activities / Messages / Oppertunities

but no Portal. Is there a reason this tab isn't there in both places. It would make sense and it's hard for me to train users to use the system when sometimes the options that should be there are hidden. Is this intentional?

Peter,

As you already know, portal access is provided only to Account Contacts. Hence the portal tab is available at the Accounts > Contacts level. As all contacts (general and account contacts) displayed in the Contacts module do not have the portal access, the portal tab has not been provided in the Contacts module.
